In March of 2019, Vegas City Opera (formerly Sin City Opera) and Vegas Theatre Company (Formerly Cockroach Theatre) mounted the first-ever full-360 VR capture and production of a classical opera, the famous one-act comic opera Gianni Schicchi by Giacomo Puccini.
StudioKurcan provided on-location production support, including multi-zone audio capture. Video capture and editing was performed by Travel Time VR.
This interpretation was set in present-day Las Vegas, focusing on a diverse family of characters! The comic opera is based on an incident mentioned in Dante's Divine Comedy. The work is the third and final part of Puccini's Il trittico (The Triptych), three one-act operas with contrasting themes, originally written to be presented together. Although it continues to be performed with one or both of the other trittico operas, Gianni Schicchi is now more frequently staged alone. The aria "O mio babbino caro" is one of Puccini's best known, and one of the most popular arias in opera. Sin City Opera’s presentation of the one-act opera will be extended with additional family intrigue as you get an in-depth glance at the characters that make up the tale.
